HAVEN

Design of a Primary Health Clinic

YEAR: 2019
SOFTWARES: Autodesk Revit, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop

DESCRIPTION: Haven is derived from the notions of safety and comfort. This project aims to create a clinic that represents the town's history and create a space that invokes a feeling of "home". In order to evoke a feeling of trust between patients and the healthcare providers, openness and transparency are at the forefront of this design, helping to create a warm and calming medical environment that eases patients' discomfort while also offering technology that assists physicians in working efficiently.

CONCEPT/ IDEAS

The main concept is derived from cotton, which relates to the site's history and symbolizes comfort and warmth. Cotton was the main source of income for the town in the 20th century, and as the per the client's brief, the design should resemble the city's history, yet be contemporary. The plan is organized in such a way that all spaces are interwoven, reflecting the idea of cotton fibers within a garment. A key element within the design is the use of wood, which represents the lumber mill that was also previously present and a factor in the city's industrial growth. The partitions of the space are primarily transparent or translucent, allowing the patients to partially see into the provider's workspace, de-mystifying the vagueness and often complicated nature of healthcare
