Lighting Design for a Vietnamese Restaurant

YEAR: 2020
SOFTWARES: Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, V-Ray, Autodesk Autocad

DESCRIPTION: The inspiration for this design is based on the creations of Chef David Phu and Vietnamese cuisine, where the notion of a successful dish is based on the balance of flavors, colors, nutrients, yin and yang. Given the variety of textures we find in their food, from the crispiness of rice crackers, stickiness of rice, and chewiness of banh cam, we can see that mouthfeel takes center stage in this symphony of culinary experiences. My design concept is rooted in the natural elements and textures found in Vietnam. The flavors, textures, and colors are based on the incredible nature, serenity, and tranquility of Vietnam. Our perception of texture also depends upon complementary surfaces and the lighting applied, so the intention is for the interiors to evoke a sense of Vietnam without being traditional or literal.

CONCEPT/ IDEA:
The idea is inspired by Chef David Phu, and Vietnamese cuisine as Vietnamese cuisine is all about the balance of flavors, colors, nutrients, yin, and yang. Its elements have so many textures from rice crackers' crispiness, the stickiness of rice, chewy gummy bánh cam to different textures of a traditional Pho. These are meant to complement each other in every sense, and the mouthfeel takes center stage in this symphony. The concept is rooted in the theme of natural elements and textures found in Vietnam. The flavors, textures, and colors are based on the celebrated nature, serenity, and tranquility in Vietnam.
